JS-Fu in DC/Philly & Surrounding?
Thomas & I are planning our fall trip to the US. We were going to speak at the Ajax Experience, but… let’s just say that’s a story for another day.
We want to offer a 1-day JS master class, one in DC and one in Philly, in early September.
And here’s where I could use your help! Can you let me know…
- are you there?
- are you interested?
- what topics would you loooove?
- would you prefer a week day or a weekend?
- is this something you think your employer (if you have one) might underwrite, or would you have to pay out of pocket?
- do you want a discount as one of my very special readers? (duh! 😉
Thanks much in advance! Hope I’ll see you soon!
I’d love to attend the session in DC, Amy! Either a weekday or a weekend will work for me.
My employer would be happy to pick up the tab, but since I’m my own employer, it comes out of pocket. (A discount would be greatly appreciated!)
As for topics, I think highlights from JS Performance Rocks would be good. I’d also like to hear your thoughts on what HTML 5 will do for JS. Is there anything we can do to prepare for it? How do we handle DOM differences, etc.
I would likely be interested in Philly. I’m in the same boat as Dean. I’d also really like to know more about unit testing JS.
1) Yes. 2) I guarantee you there will be interest in DC (self included) — http://www.jsconf2009.com/ sold out a few months ago. 3) Any new, interesting JS stuff sounds good to me. 4) I would greatly prefer it being during the week. When I attend weekend conferences, I am running on "empty" the next week. 5) Lots of employers, mine included, are cutting down on their training budgets. I’d be paying for this one out-of-pocket. 6) But of course! 🙂
One request — please, please, please hold it in DC proper or at least somewhere Metro-accessible. Lots of "DC" conferences are in places like Reston, VA, which is 20 miles out of town and requires a car, a $50 taxi ride each way or a series of train/bus/shuttle transfers. Thanks for taking this into consideration.
Hi all, I’ll be helping Amy & Thomas organize the DC workshop through my new venture, Jumpstart Lab. It will definitely be in "DC proper" — either at a location on 18th street in Adams Morgan or one in Dupont Circle.
I’m sure some people will prefer weekends and some weekdays, but the reality of the space rental is that the weekend is much cheaper and easier for us.
I’d definitely be interested in something on the weekend. I’d most likely pay out of pocket since budgets are tight around here. The topics mentioned before are right on mark.
JSConf was well attended very well here in DC. I’d definitely make it to another JavaScript conference here, and many others at my company.
I’l love to here more about scripty2, and the future of prototype work that took place recently.
I guess I’m lucky my company still offers a training budge.
I’m interested in the Philly session. Weekends would work best for me and like others I’d probably foot the bill.
I’d like to hear more about: – security – server side js (rhino, jaxer, etc…) – js app dev process (code management, docs, build, etc…)
Please let me know when you plan to be in Philly. Weekend is probably best. I guess I would like to know some of UI design insights – especially how Scripty2 improves modern UI tactics/work and how you came to create/conceive.
